Frequently Asked Questions

How does my child move up to the next level?

Each gymnast has a list of required skills that they will need to learn in order to move up to the next level. As a gymnast continues to learn new skills and execute them with proper form, they will earn stars on their skill sheets, showing that they are able to perform the skill with excellence.

We regularly review and check off skills every couple weeks in order to determine each gymnast’s progress in class. Coaches may decide to track using tangible paper skill sheets, OR by tracking their progress using our online JackRabbit Portal. If you have any questions about your child’s progress, feel free to ask their coach how they are doing, and what specific skills your child may need more work on. Coaches may have some recommended drills, conditioning, or stretching that can be done at home to help your child gain the strength, flexibility, or technique required to perform a skill that might be difficult to master.

After a gymnast has demonstrated that they can perform ALL skills necessary to move up to the next level, they will receive a Level Up Certificate and take a picture to be posted upstairs in the mezzanine on our Level Up board! After receiving their certificate, please visit our website to view available class times for the next level, then call us at (925) 687-8009 to transfer to your new class.

How long will it take for my child to move up to the next level?

The amount of time it takes to move up varies from person to person, as each gymnast has their own set of unique strengths. However, gymnasts who attend classes more frequently tend to move up quicker, as they become even more familiar with the technique needed to perform the skill with proper form.

Additionally, students may opt to schedule private lessons with a coach in order to have more personal instruction to improve their skills and performance.

We recommend talking and checking in with your child's coach(es) to see if there are any particular skills they need extra help on. Your coach may also provide you with some drills or activities you can do to help improve their skills at home.

We highly advise spending some time stretching or doing basic conditioning skills (e.g., push ups, pull ups, etc.) at home, as extra time spent training to improve flexibility and general strength outside of gymnastics practice hours will make it easier for your child to attain some of the more advanced skills in each level, (especially the ones that are too unsafe to practice at home.)

Furthermore, it is important that your child attends classes regularly. Students who are frequently absent may lose some of their skills over time--Gymnastics is a sport that requires consistent practice in order to help an athlete retain their skills.
